The effect of social adversity on the emotional behavioral problem for adolescents: The moderating effect of coping flexibility

Abstract
The purposes of this study were to examine the relationship between social adversity(SA) and emotional behavioral problems(EBP) until adolescence, and to verify the moderating effect of coping flexibility in relation to SA and EBP until adolescence. 723 high school students conducted self-report questionnaire that measures SA, youth EBP, and coping flexibility. And analysis using SPSS 21.0 was performed. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, SA until adolescence was significantly positively correlated with EBP, shown no significant correlation with coping flexibility. In addition, the coping flexibility was significantly negatively correlated with EBP. Second, the moderating effect of coping flexibility on the effect of SA on EBP until adolescence was not significant. However, trauma focused coping, which is sub factors of coping flexibility has shown significant moderating effect. Based on these results, implications and limitations of this study and the proposals for further study were discussed.
